PE Premium

As you may be aware, the government have allocated funding to schools to be solely spent on PE and sport between 2013-2015.

We aim to use this funding to:

  • Raise the profile of sport within our school
  • Provide an outstanding range of sporting opportunities during and after school
  • Raise participation in games, dance, gym, swimming and athletics
  • Ensure PE is highly inclusive
  • Ensure teaching and delivery of PE is outstanding
  • Increase the level of inter school competition
  • Increase the level of intra school competition
  • Extend and establish links with local sporting clubs
  • Encourage children to lead a healthy lifestyle
Immediately we are seeing a huge impact on pupils at our school with PE and sport becoming a day to day part of life at Branston Junior Academy.
During curriculum time, pupils receive 2 hours of high quality PE. This includes games, gym, dance, athletics, swimming and Active8.
We also provide PE clubs in Basketball, Football, Street Dance, Netball, Tag Rugby, Table Tennis and Tap Dance.

Basketball

We launched our new basketball club this year and paid for a coach to deliver 6 weeks of specialist coaching to our year 5/6 pupils after school. We purchased 2 basketball hoops so the children can continue playing and we hope the children that were involved will now become our basketball ambassadors and teach other pupils in the school the skills they have learned.

Table Tennis

We have bought 2 new table tennis tables along with bats and balls. Darius Knight, a Great Britain table tennis star, came to our school and worked with every class. He then stayed after school and ran the first session of our after-school table tennis club. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the weekly club and house competition we are running. If you want to follow what Darius is doing, then go to his website on: www.dariusknight.com

Tag Rugby

The year 3/4 children thoroughly enjoyed our new Tag Rugby club. Our coach was really pleased with the progress all the children made throughout the 6 weeks. I hope these children continue developing these skills at a local rugby club.

Athletics

Our athletics club will run for 10 weeks during the Summer term. The club will be for children in year 5 and 6 and will be run by Mr.Jim Gillespie who is an ex Commonwealth Games athlete! He will teach the children basic running, running and throwing skills. Hopefully we'll have our own Commonwealth Games champion soon!

PE PREMIUM SPENDING IMPACT

We feel it is extremely important to monitor the impact the new funding is having on our children against the aims and objectives we set. Below are links to show in detail how we have spent the funding and the impact it is having.
